The National Institute of Technology, Surat, is a public
technical university established in 1961. The institute is also known as Sardar
Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology Surat (SVNIT Surat) and
abbreviated as ‘SVNIT’. It is situated in Surat, Gujarat.
The SVNIT has been recognised as an ‘Institute of National
Importance’ by the Government of India.
Earlier, the Sardar Vallabhbhai Regional College of Engineering and Technology, NIT Surat, was established and set up in 1961 under a joint venture between the Government of India and the Government of Gujarat. The Institute has been named after the Iron Man of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
