NIT Jamshedpur

The National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur, is one of the renowned institutes for technical education, located in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, India. Established on 15th August 1960, it was earlier named as ‘Regional Institute of Technology’, Jamshedpur. The institute was established under the joint venture of the Government of India and the Government of Bihar. Later, it was renamed as ‘National Institute of Technology’, on 27th December 2002, and gained the status of ‘Deemed University’.

The institute has been declared as ‘Institute of National Importance’ and is managed completely under the Ministry of Education (MoE). The NIT, Jamshedpur, has been ranked top 150 among engineering colleges by NIRF (National Institutional Ranking Framework) in 2024.

The admissions for postgraduate programs are Entrance Exam-based – GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering). The seat allocation is done through JoSAA/CSAB/DASA counselling. For M.Tech programs, the seat allocation is done through CCMT.
